My name is Nicolas Klemer. I studied Clinical Psychology in Vienna, Austria in 2007, graduating with a Mag. rer. nat. (equivalent to an MSc) in 2013. I then worked for almost five years as a therapist in a psychosomatic clinic, treating adolescents and adults with a wide range of mental health problems. At the same time, I completed my training as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT). This training comprises 600 hours of theory and seminars, 120 hours of receiving therapy yourself, 600 hours of supervised treatment (including 150 hours of supervision) and over 2,500 hours of practical work in various inpatient and outpatient settings. Since 2018, I have been working as an independent therapist, conducting group and individual sessions in my own private practice.
In 2022 I co-founded an NGO that offers therapeutic surfing for people with mental health problems (surf.bewusst.sein e.V.).
Although I have a degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vienna (Austria), I am not yet a registered psychologist in Australia.
My therapeutic approach is based on the concept of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT); I also use elements of and Schema Therapy, Mindfulness and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).
I believe that people are inherently capable of change and growth, but sometimes need support to identify the most effective methods. I am committed to providing you with comprehensive support and guidance as you work towards achieving your goals.
I have over ten years of experience in working with teenagers and adults who need support with:
emotional instability, borderline, self-harming behaviour, suicidal tendencies,
post-traumatic stress disorders,
eating disorders,
depression and
anxiety disorders.
I also provide supportive therapeutic counselling for transgender & non-binary people.
